Is $200 to wash windows fair?
Whole-house window cleaning, inside and out. Here is how services price it, what moves the number, and the windows worth paying someone else to reach.
Sometimes yourself, sometimes a pro
Hire a pro
$150 to $400
typical in the US, before local labor differences
Do it yourself
$15 to $60
parts only, about 120 to 240 minutes
Ground-floor glass is a squeegee, a bucket and an afternoon. Second-storey windows are the reason the service exists: a pro with a water-fed pole does them from the ground, and a pole does not fall. Most services price per pane, inside and out counted separately, with a minimum visit charge. For a typical house, $200 is at the low end for exterior only and fair for a smaller home inside and out.

Why it costs what it costs
- Count and storeys: priced per pane, with upper-floor and hard-to-reach windows at a higher rate.
- Inside and out: interior glass roughly doubles the job because of furniture, blinds and tracks.
- Condition: hard-water spots, paint overspray or construction dust need extra passes or a scraper, which is billed on top.
When to stop and call someone
- Second-storey or higher windows without a safe reach from the ground.
- Skylights and glass over a stairwell.
- Hard-water staining that soap and a squeegee will not shift, which needs a mineral remover before it etches the glass.
If you do it yourself
- Remove and rinse the screens first
- Wash with a sponge and a few drops of dish soap in warm water
- Squeegee top to bottom, wiping the blade between strokes
- Dry the edges with a microfiber cloth
- Use an extension pole for second-storey glass instead of a ladder
Tools: squeegee, bucket, microfiber cloths, extension pole, dish soap.
Questions people ask
- Is $200 to wash windows fair?
- For a single-storey home with 15 to 25 windows, exterior only, yes. Inside and out on a two-storey house is more often $300 to $450. Ask how many panes the quote counts and whether screens and tracks are included.
- How much to wash all the exterior windows?
- $150 to $400 for most houses, exterior only, with the count of panes and the number of storeys deciding where in that range you land.
- Can the same company pressure-wash the driveway?
- Many do both in one visit, and bundling saves the second trip charge. Pressure washing a driveway on its own is usually $150 to $350.
